Sterling Jones

Sterling Scott Jones was a founding member of the legendary Studio der frühen Musik (Early Music Quartet, Thomas Binkley) and performed with this ensemble for eighteen years.
The work of this ensemble which is documentated on numerous recordings was of greatest influence for the reconstruction of medieval performance practice.

Sterling Jones then taught in Basel (Schola Cantorum) performance practice and early bowed string instruments, having co-published a transcription of the complete music of Tobias Hume for viola da gamba.

He now resides in Munich and recently published a book on the Lira da braccio (Indiana University Press). Recent interests deal with the musical aspects of computer components.

As a hobby he enjoys playing romantic piano music.

He participated in several projects of ensemble Ordo Virtutum as a fiddle player.
